A 16-year-old boy sparks debate online after wearing a dramatic billowing ballgown

In 2022, a social media post shared by Nina Green unexpectedly captured worldwide attention after it showcased her teenage son, Korben White, preparing for his high school prom in a bold and highly expressive outfit. What began as a personal family moment quickly evolved into a viral discussion that spread across multiple platforms, sparking conversations about individuality, parenting, youth identity, and modern social values.

Korben, a British teenager aged 16 at the time of his prom, chose an outfit that blended traditional formalwear with a creative and unconventional design. His look featured a structured tuxedo-style top paired with a dramatic, flowing red skirt. The outfit, combined with his bright red hair and confident presentation, made a striking visual impression as he arrived at Archbishop Sancroft High School in Harleston, Norfolk.

According to his mother, Nina Green, Korben had expressed an interest in wearing a dress to his prom years earlier, reportedly around the age of 12. Over time, this early idea developed into a carefully considered outfit that reflected his evolving sense of identity and personal expression. Green has described her role as a parent as being focused on supporting her child’s confidence while allowing him the freedom to express himself authentically.

When Korben arrived at the school prom, the reaction from many students and staff members was reportedly overwhelmingly positive. Witnesses described moments of cheering and emotional responses as he stepped out in his chosen outfit. For many in attendance, the moment stood out as a memorable example of self-expression being accepted in a school environment.

Shortly after the event, Nina Green shared photos of her son on social media, expressing pride in his confidence and individuality. The post quickly went viral, gaining attention from thousands of users across the world. Within hours, the images were being widely shared, discussed, and reposted across multiple platforms.

As the post gained traction, public reactions became divided. A large number of users praised both Korben and his mother, highlighting themes of acceptance, courage, and parental support. Many commenters shared similar personal experiences involving their own children and encouraged a message of inclusivity and understanding. Some even expressed admiration for the school environment, noting the supportive reaction from peers and teachers.

At the same time, the viral attention also attracted critical opinions. Some social media users questioned the outfit choice, framing the discussion within broader cultural and generational debates. These reactions reflected the diversity of perspectives that often emerge online when topics involve youth identity and non-traditional forms of expression.

Despite the mixed reactions, Nina Green remained firm in her intention behind sharing the post. She explained that her goal was not to provoke controversy but to celebrate her son’s happiness and confidence. She emphasized that allowing children to express themselves in safe and supportive environments can contribute positively to their emotional development and self-esteem.

Korben himself later described the experience as surreal, particularly given the scale of attention the post received. For him, the prom outfit was primarily a form of personal expression inspired by creativity and individuality rather than a statement intended for public debate. He has been associated online with expressive fashion and drag-inspired aesthetics, which influenced his prom styling choices.

The viral moment also drew responses from public figures, including personalities from entertainment and media circles, who commented positively on the post. This further amplified its visibility, turning it into a widely discussed cultural moment beyond the original school event.

As the story spread, it became part of a broader global conversation about how younger generations express identity through fashion and social media. It also highlighted how quickly personal family experiences can become international talking points in the digital age, where viral content often transcends its original context.

In addition to praise and criticism, the post also inspired many parents and users to share their own experiences. Some discussed supporting children who choose non-traditional clothing styles, while others reflected on challenges faced by young people who express themselves differently from societal expectations. These discussions added further depth to the online conversation surrounding the story.

For Nina Green, the experience reinforced her belief in unconditional parental support. She has stated in various posts that her priority is ensuring her son feels accepted and confident in his identity. She also expressed hope that sharing their story could help other families feel less isolated and more encouraged to support their children.

Ultimately, the viral prom story illustrates how modern social media platforms can transform personal milestones into global discussions. It highlights both the positive and challenging aspects of online visibility, where support and criticism often exist side by side.

While opinions on Korben’s outfit varied widely, the central theme that emerged from the story was one of self-expression, family support, and the evolving nature of youth identity in contemporary society.
