My Family Disowned Me For Marrying A Blind Man — Then, On Our 10th Anniversary, He Revealed Why My Parents Truly Hated Him
When I told my parents that I was going to marry Nathan, they didn't simply disagree with my decision.
They gave me a choice.
“If you marry him, you are no longer part of this family.”
My father couldn't understand why I would choose a blind man.
“What kind of life do you expect?” he asked. “You'll spend your entire life taking care of him.”
Nathan had lost his sight after a terrible accident several years earlier. But blindness was only one part of who he was. He was intelligent, gentle, patient, and the first man who had ever made me feel completely loved and understood.
None of that mattered to my parents.
My mother even warned me that if I continued with the wedding, I would lose my inheritance.
My parents were wealthy, and they had already imagined a completely different future for me. They wanted me to marry the son of one of their business associates, believing that the marriage would strengthen both families and their financial interests.
But I loved Nathan.
So I chose him.
We got married without my parents.
Until the final hour, I secretly hoped they would walk through the door and surprise me.
They never did.
After that, my entire family disappeared from my life. My sister stopped calling. My cousins stopped visiting. It was as if marrying Nathan had erased me from the family completely.
Ten years passed.
During that time, my parents never contacted me—not on my birthday, not when I had my children, and not once to ask whether I was okay.
The pain never completely disappeared, but I learned to live with it.
Then came our tenth wedding anniversary.
Nathan and I went to a small café overlooking the lake. It should have been a perfect evening, but something about him seemed different.
He was unusually quiet.
His hand felt cold when I reached for it.
“Are you all right?” I asked.
He took a slow breath.
Then he held my hand tightly.
“There is something I've kept from you for a long time,” he said.
My heart immediately began racing.
“What do you mean?”
Nathan lowered his head.
“Your parents didn't hate me because I was blind.”
I stopped breathing.
“They were terrified of what I knew about them.”
My mind went completely blank.
“What are you talking about?”
Nathan's voice became quiet.
“Before our wedding, I discovered something your parents had spent years hiding from you. They knew that if you married me, eventually I would tell you.”
He paused.
“And that's the real reason they did everything possible to keep us apart.”
I could barely speak.
“What secret?”
Nathan squeezed my hand.
Then he whispered:
“Before I lost my sight, I saw something involving your parents that I was never supposed to see.”
