She’s 108 and Still Driving—Her New License Is Valid Until 2033, and the Reason She Refuses to Stop Driving Has Everyone Amazed

At 108, This Remarkable Woman Just Renewed Her Driver’s License Through 2033 — And She Has No Plans to Stop Driving

At an age when most people have long since given up driving, one remarkable Delaware woman is proving that getting older does not necessarily mean giving up independence. At 108 years old, Susan Young Browne still gets behind the wheel of her blue Subaru whenever she needs to go somewhere, and she has just renewed her driver’s license through 2033.

That means her license will remain valid until she is 115 years old. For Browne, however, the achievement does not seem particularly extraordinary. Driving remains an important part of her everyday life because it allows her to maintain her independence and take care of her own errands.

“In order for me to go to the store, I have to drive,” Browne explained. She also described herself as an experienced driver who tries to be extremely careful whenever she is on the road.

Her confidence comes after more than eight decades behind the wheel. Browne was born in 1918 on a farm in Lincoln, Delaware, where she grew up as one of nine children. Her childhood was spent during segregation, and she attended a segregated elementary school before continuing her education at Delaware State College for Colored Students, graduating in 1945.

She later dedicated approximately 30 years of her life to teaching. Her career even included working in a one-room schoolhouse, giving her a remarkable connection to the history of education and the community she served.

Today, Browne continues to live independently in the same home where she has lived for more than seven decades. Her daily routine also remains surprisingly active. Three days each week, she drives herself to the Modern Maturity Center, where she participates in group exercise activities, including chair dancing.

Her approach to food is equally disciplined. Browne reportedly enjoys a simple diet that includes chicken, fresh fruit, and black coffee. She does not drink alcohol and avoids fried foods. There is, however, one special exception when family gathers: her homemade 7UP cake.

Her longevity and independence have made her a celebrated figure in her community. More than 100 people, including neighbors and local officials, gathered to celebrate her recent birthday. The Modern Maturity Center also honored her by creating a special reserved parking space for drivers who are 100 years old or older.

Despite reaching an age few people ever experience, Browne does not appear interested in slowing down. Her philosophy is straightforward: “I grow old gracefully.”

With a driver’s license now stretching all the way to 2033, Susan Young Browne is showing that independence, determination, and an active spirit can continue well beyond the age most people ever imagine.
