Beloved Comedian Who Once Lit Up ‘In Living Color’ Has Died at 57 After Living Abroad for Nearly Two Decades
The entertainment world is mourning the loss of a comedian and actor whose career brought laughter to television audiences during some of the most memorable years of sketch comedy. The performer died at the age of 57, leaving behind a career that included television, film, stand-up comedy, and appearances alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
News of his death was confirmed by his sister, author Bernice L. McFadden, who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday, Oct. 4. According to his family, he had been living in Tanzania for approximately 18 years. The U.S. State Department eventually notified his relatives about his death.
At this time, the family has not publicly shared details about where he died or what caused his death. The lack of information has left fans remembering his work while his loved ones deal with the loss privately.

Many viewers will remember him most strongly from In Living Color, the groundbreaking sketch comedy series created by Keenen Ivory Wayans. He appeared in 23 episodes during the show's fifth and final season, which aired from 1993 to 1994. The series featured major stars and future household names, including Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, and members of the Wayans family.
His career extended well beyond the iconic sketch show. He appeared on popular television programs including Moesha, Coach, and Martin, while also landing a role in the 1998 sitcom Getting Personal. That series featured him alongside Vivica A. Fox, Jon Cryer, and Duane Martin.
He also made an appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2001, portraying a police officer and neighbor of Larry David. His film credits included the 1990 thriller Jacob’s Ladder and the 2000 comedy Little Nicky, showing the range of opportunities he earned throughout his career.
Comedy remained an important part of his life from the beginning. According to his biography on The Comedy Store's website, growing up in what he described as the harsh neighborhoods of Brooklyn motivated him to pursue comedy. His major breakthrough reportedly came in 1991 when producers of HBO's Def Comedy Jam invited him to perform. His appearance became an important early step in a career that eventually took him to television, film, and live comedy stages.
He later became a touring comedian and even had a comedy special on Comedy Central. Though he eventually moved far from the American entertainment scene, his earlier work remained part of his lasting legacy.
The comedian was Reggie McFadden, remembered by fans for his work on In Living Color and numerous other productions. He is survived by his sons Jaron and Myles, his mother Vivian, his sister Bernice, and siblings Misty and Kris.
